It was not until the end of college that Jae Jennifer Rossman was introduced to the book arts, through printmaking. As she furthered her study of painting and printmaking, she held a work-study position in the Preservation Department of the Brandeis University Libraries, where she learned more about the structure of the book. The conversations she had with various members of the staff gave her a fuller picture of the behind-the-scenes life of an academic library and prompted her to pursue a Master’s Degree in Library Science, which she received from Simmons College in Boston. While in school, Jae developed a web resource for information about artists’ books, acquainting her with the proliferation of information available on the Internet. She began her current position of Special Collections Librarian, Arts Library for Yale University in 2000, with a mission to work actively to promote knowledge of the book arts.

about the artist
Art has been a life-long passion for Jae Jennifer Rossman. From her earliest fingerpaintings to her most recent prints and stationery designs, Jae’s life has always centered on the arts. As an undergraduate, she incorporated her study of art history directly into her large scale drawing compositions, and studied traditional printmaking methods. She continued to pursue a formal education in painting and printmaking, attending the Post-Baccalaureate Program in Studio Art at Brandeis University in Massachusetts. While Jae decided to pursue librarianship as her vocation, she could not give up her love of art. Once settled in New Haven, she set up a studio to pursue again her love of drawing. She explores her world through line and color to record her visual experiences and imagings. Turning these drawings into stationery allows Jae to share easily her work with others.
